Unfortunately, scams targeting business owners are on the rise – and intellectual property (IP) scams are no exception.
We’ve recently been made aware of a scam involving a company claiming to be “Cromford Law – Intellectual Property Solicitors.” This group is not who they claim to be. They are impersonating a legitimate law firm, using cloned contact details and even referencing real addresses to appear credible. The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) has now published a scam alert, which you can read here: Cromford Law Scam Alert – SRA.
The scam company is cold-calling or emailing businesses, often claiming to represent them regarding intellectual property matters such as trade mark renewals, infringement notices, or even new filings. They may use language that implies urgency or legal action, and pressure you into paying fees or handing over sensitive information.
